RETINA & UVEA CARE
Retinal Laser Treatment
Retinal laser creates controlled spots of treatment on selected retinal tissue. It may form a barrier around a tear, reduce the drive for abnormal new vessels in ischaemic retina, or treat selected areas of leakage. The purpose and laser pattern differ substantially by diagnosis.
Laser around a retinal tear creates a ring of adhesion over several days; it does not instantly weld the tissue or remove the vitreous traction that caused the tear. Symptoms can persist after treatment, and any expanding shadow or new shower of floaters still needs urgent review.
Panretinal photocoagulation places broader treatment in ischaemic peripheral retina to reduce signals that drive abnormal blood vessels. The trade-off can include reduced night or peripheral vision. For this reason, the likely benefit and functional effects are discussed before treatment whenever the situation permits.

1. When may retinal laser be used?
A retinal tear or hole judged at risk of progressing to detachment
Proliferative diabetic retinopathy or another ischaemic condition with abnormal vessels
Selected vascular leakage or other diagnosis-specific retinal lesions
2. The laser pathway
Map the target
A dilated examination and imaging determine the diagnosis, treatment area and whether laser is the appropriate option.
Deliver controlled spots
After anaesthetic drops, treatment is usually performed through a contact lens at a slit lamp or with an indirect laser system.
Review the response
Follow-up confirms that a tear is surrounded or assesses regression of vascular activity; additional treatment may be needed.
3. What laser can and cannot do
Tear barricade
Laser forms adhesion around a break to reduce detachment risk, but it cannot eliminate all future tears.
Vascular treatment
Panretinal photocoagulation reduces severe neovascular complications but can affect peripheral or night vision.
Not interchangeable
Macular oedema is often treated with injections, and an established detachment generally needs another form of repair.
4. Risks and aftercare
- Temporary blur, glare, headache or light sensitivity can follow dilation and laser
- Possible effects include a blind spot, reduced peripheral or night vision, macular swelling, bleeding or unintended retinal injury
- New flashes, floaters, a curtain-like shadow or sudden worsening of vision requires urgent reassessment

Every eye is different. The right procedure is the one that fits your cornea, your lens, your retina and the way you use your vision every day — not the one that is most advertised. Technology supports the decision; it never replaces the clinical evaluation.

We are falling short of words but still trying our best to express gratitude. We are truly blessed & thankful for early diagnosis. Thank you so so much and we will do my best to follow your advice to the T. You guys are amazing and we surely recommend this place a modern temple to get your periodic proactive eye check ups or any other ophthalmic issues. Way to go!”
“The staff and doctors were very nice and there was not a very long wait time. Great organization and system in the hospital. All the eye tests were super easy to understand and were done efficiently. The doctors were very gentle and caring giving tissues whenever needed and checking if you are ok. I definitely would recommend this hospital for any eye problems or even just a checkup. My doctor was Dr. Neha Patak, she was extremely soft spoken and really caring. Salik was very gentle when lifting eyelids and that was very much appreciated.”
