Supporting healthy vision from infancy through adolescence
Paediatric Ophthalmology at Perfect Vision Laser Eye Hospital, Jaipur
Children may not recognise or explain difficulty seeing. Regular screening and timely assessment help identify problems while their vision is developing.
At Perfect Vision Laser Eye Hospital – Dr. Virendra Laser Phaco Surgery Centre, Jaipur, children’s eye care includes assessment of vision, spectacle power, eye alignment and overall eye health.
What is paediatric ophthalmology?
Paediatric ophthalmology focuses on diagnosing and treating eye conditions in babies, children and teenagers. Treatment is tailored to the child’s age, diagnosis and stage of visual development.

Conditions assessed and treated
Amblyopia — lazy eye
Amblyopia develops when vision in one or both eyes does not develop normally. Treatment may include prescribed glasses, patching or atropine drops in the better-seeing eye. Early treatment generally offers better results, although older children may also benefit.
Childhood myopia — short-sightedness
Myopia makes distant objects appear blurred. Children may struggle to see the classroom board or sit close to screens. Glasses correct vision; selected myopia-control treatments may help slow progression. Myopia can continue increasing through adolescence and into adulthood.
Squint — strabismus
A squint occurs when the eyes point in different directions. One eye may turn inward, outward, upward or downward. Treatment can include glasses, amblyopia treatment or eye-muscle surgery, depending on the cause.
Other childhood eye conditions
Assessment also covers congenital cataracts, childhood glaucoma and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Eligible premature babies need retinal screening according to their neonatal team’s schedule.
Signs parents should notice
- Frequent squinting, eye rubbing or headaches.
- Closing one eye or tilting the head.
- An eye that turns or drifts.
- Difficulty recognising distant objects.
- Persistent watering or light sensitivity.
