NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY
Double Vision (Diplopia)
Double vision means seeing two images of one object. If it disappears when either eye is covered, it is usually binocular and relates to eye alignment. If it remains in one uncovered eye, it is monocular and more often comes from the tear film, cornea, lens or refractive system.
Images may sit side by side, one above the other or diagonally, and may appear only in certain directions or at distance. A person may tilt the head, close one eye or feel unsteady. The exact onset and associated eyelid, pupil or neurological changes are clinically important.

Assessment and diagnosis
The examination first separates monocular from binocular diplopia. Eye alignment and movement are measured in different gaze positions, with checks of pupils, eyelids, vision and fatigue. Depending on the pattern, blood sugar, thyroid or other blood tests and MRI or CT imaging may be advised to investigate nerves, muscles, orbit or brain pathways.
Treatment and practical care
Treatment addresses the cause. Temporary occlusion may make daily activity safer while evaluation continues. Selected stable deviations can be helped with prism lenses; medical conditions need appropriate treatment. Some nerve palsies improve with observation and risk-factor control, while persistent stable misalignment may require squint-surgery assessment.
Follow-up and expectations
Alignment can change during recovery, so measurements may be repeated before permanent prism or surgery decisions. Driving and work at height may be unsafe while two images persist. Follow-up records whether the separation, direction and range of comfortable single vision are improving.
Risks and limitations
Prisms do not cure the underlying problem and may not work in every direction of gaze. Recovery time and completeness vary. It is unsafe to assume sudden diplopia is merely tiredness, especially when a pupil, eyelid, speech, balance or limb function has also changed.

Every eye is different. The right procedure is the one that fits your cornea, your lens, your retina and the way you use your vision every day — not the one that is most advertised. Technology supports the decision; it never replaces the clinical evaluation.

“The staff and doctors were very nice and there was not a very long wait time. Great organization and system in the hospital. All the eye tests were super easy to understand and were done efficiently. The doctors were very gentle and caring giving tissues whenever needed and checking if you are ok.
