NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY
Neuro-Ophthalmology
Neuro-ophthalmology examines visual problems linked to the optic nerves, brain pathways, pupils and nerves that move the eyes. These problems may not be explained by a routine spectacle check because the eye itself can appear healthy while communication between the eye and brain is affected.
Referral may be needed for unexplained or sudden visual loss, double vision, missing areas of side vision, altered colour vision, unequal pupils, a new drooping eyelid or optic-nerve swelling. Headache, weakness, imbalance or other neurological symptoms can provide important clues and must be reported.

Assessment and diagnosis
The assessment combines a detailed timeline with visual acuity, colour vision, pupil reactions, eye movements, eyelid position, optic-nerve examination and visual-field testing. Optical coherence tomography may measure nerve fibres. MRI or CT imaging and selected blood tests are advised only when findings indicate them, sometimes in coordination with a neurologist or physician.
Treatment and practical care
There is no single neuro-ophthalmology treatment. Care depends on the cause and may include observation, medicines for inflammation, management of vascular risk factors, prisms for selected double vision, or referral to neurology, neurosurgery or another specialty. The purpose of testing is to direct treatment rather than simply collect scans.
Follow-up and expectations
Some diagnoses become clear at the first visit; others need repeat fields, imaging or review as symptoms evolve. Bringing old reports, scans, a medicine list and the exact date symptoms began is helpful. Follow-up also checks whether vision, colour perception, pupils or eye alignment are stable.
Risks and limitations
A normal eye examination does not exclude every neurological cause, and even thorough testing may not immediately explain a symptom. Recovery varies with the diagnosis, severity and timing of care. Some nerve damage can be permanent, so online advice should not delay assessment of a new visual change.

Every eye is different. The right procedure is the one that fits your cornea, your lens, your retina and the way you use your vision every day — not the one that is most advertised. Technology supports the decision; it never replaces the clinical evaluation.

“The staff and doctors were very nice and there was not a very long wait time. Great organization and system in the hospital. All the eye tests were super easy to understand and were done efficiently. The doctors were very gentle and caring giving tissues whenever needed and checking if you are ok. I definitely would recommend this hospital for any eye problems or even just a checkup. My doctor was Dr. Neha Patak, she was extremely soft spoken and really caring. Salik was very gentle when lifting eyelids and that was very much appreciated.”
