SMILE stands for Small Incision Lenticule Extraction. It is a laser vision correction procedure performed using the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 femtosecond laser.
The laser creates a precisely shaped piece of tissue, called a lenticule, inside the cornea—the transparent front surface of the eye. The surgeon removes this tissue through a small opening, changing the cornea’s shape to improve how light focuses.

3. How does the treatment work?
Step 1: Assessment

Step 2: Preparation
Anaesthetic eye drops numb the eye before treatment. Your surgical team explains what to expect and how to follow the surgeon’s instructions during the procedure.
Step 3: Positioning

Step 4: Laser treatment

CentraLign® centration assistance
CentraLign uses pupil-centre and corneal-vertex information to help the surgeon position treatment. This computer-supported guidance assists with centring during the positioning and docking process.
OcuLign® rotational alignment
The eye may rotate slightly when a patient changes position. OcuLign helps the surgeon adjust the treatment pattern to account for this rotation, which matters particularly when correcting astigmatism.

What does “with AI” mean for patients?
