Cataracts can make everyday activities difficult. Reading becomes tiring, colours appear faded, and headlights may cause uncomfortable glare. When these changes affect your daily life, cataract surgery can help restore clearer vision.

At Perfect Vision Laser Eye Hospital – Dr. Virendra Laser Phaco Surgery Centre, Jaipur, CATALYS supports a personalised approach to cataract treatment.

What is FLACS?

FLACS stands for Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery. It uses a laser to perform selected steps of cataract surgery under your surgeon’s control.

Often described as “robotic-assisted” surgery, it is not an autonomous operation. Your surgeon plans the treatment, supervises laser delivery, removes the cataract and implants the replacement lens.

How does CATALYS work?

CATALYS combines a femtosecond laser with three-dimensional optical coherence tomography, or OCT, imaging. This creates a detailed view of the front of your eye to guide treatment planning.

The laser can create a circular opening in the capsule surrounding the cloudy lens and divide the cataract into smaller sections. It can also create selected corneal incisions when appropriate.

Your surgeon then removes the cataract, using ultrasound where needed, and places an artificial intraocular lens, or IOL, inside the eye.

What are the potential benefits?

Individualised planning

Imaging helps your surgeon plan treatment around your eye’s anatomy.

Controlled capsule opening

The laser supports a precisely planned opening for cataract removal.

Lens fragmentation

Dividing the cataract beforehand may reduce the ultrasound energy needed.

Flexible lens selection

Your surgeon can discuss suitable IOL options based on your vision needs.

These technical advantages do not guarantee better final vision than conventional cataract surgery for every patient.

What happens after treatment?

Many patients return home the same day. Vision usually improves progressively, although recovery depends on the eye and any underlying conditions.

Use prescribed drops, avoid rubbing your eye and attend follow-up appointments. Seek urgent assessment for increasing pain, marked redness or sudden deterioration in vision.

Every eye is different. The right procedure is the one that fits your cornea, your lens, your retina and the way you use your vision every day — not the one that is most advertised. Technology supports the decision; it never replaces the clinical evaluation.
