Specific models, powers and toric variants are selected according to clinical suitability and availability. Supplementary lenses such as Sulcoflex are used for specific indications and differ from the primary lens implanted during routine cataract surgery.
Understanding Your Lens Choices
- Monofocal: Provides one principal focus, commonly distance. Reading glasses are usually needed when targeting distance vision.
- Enhanced monofocal: Designed to improve intermediate vision compared with a standard monofocal, with performance varying by model.
- EDOF: Extends the useful focusing range, particularly for distance and intermediate tasks. Glasses may still be needed for fine print.
- Multifocal and trifocal: Provide multiple focusing distances to reduce spectacle dependence. Halos and glare are possible.
- Toric: Corrects suitable corneal astigmatism, commonly called cylindrical power. Toric correction is available with selected lens designs.
