DRY EYE CARE
Contact-Lens-Related Dry Eye
Contact lenses sit within the tear film and can alter how tears spread and evaporate. Contact-lens-related dry eye causes discomfort, dryness and reduced wearing time, and is a common reason people stop using lenses. Lens material, fit, replacement schedule, hygiene, allergy and eyelid-gland health can all contribute.
A dry or gritty feeling, redness, fluctuating vision and increasing awareness of the lenses towards evening are typical. Some people find that a lens which felt comfortable earlier becomes difficult to tolerate after long screen use, air-conditioning or travel. Symptoms should not be dismissed as a normal part of lens wear.

Assessment and diagnosis
The examination reviews lens type, age, wearing hours, cleaning products, sleeping or swimming habits and replacement schedule. The ophthalmologist checks lens fit, corneal surface, tear film, eyelid margins and meibomian glands. Allergy, infection and small epithelial injuries must be excluded before dryness alone is assumed.
Treatment and practical care
Care may involve reducing wearing time, improving cleaning practice, changing lens material or replacement frequency, and using preservative-free drops approved for use with lenses. Eyelid inflammation or allergy should be treated. A temporary break from lenses may be needed while the surface recovers; some patients ultimately use spectacles more often.
Follow-up and expectations
Contact lenses are medical devices, so periodic review remains important even when they feel comfortable. Never top up or reuse solution, share lenses, or expose them to tap water. Replace the case regularly and follow the prescribed schedule rather than extending wear to reduce cost.
Risks and limitations
Not every wearer can remain comfortable in lenses despite changes. Continuing through pain or significant redness increases the risk of abrasion and microbial keratitis. Lubricants can ease symptoms but cannot make an infected or poorly fitting lens safe.

“The staff and doctors were very nice and there was not a very long wait time. Great organization and system in the hospital. All the eye tests were super easy to understand and were done efficiently. The doctors were very gentle and caring giving tissues whenever needed and checking if you are ok. I definitely would recommend this hospital for any eye problems or even just a checkup. My doctor was Dr. Neha Patak, she was extremely soft spoken and really caring. Salik was very gentle when lifting eyelids and that was very much appreciated.”
