Which contact lenses may suit you?
Soft contact lenses are available as daily disposables or reusable lenses with a prescribed replacement schedule. Toric lenses are designed to correct astigmatism, commonly called cylindrical power. Multifocal lenses may help suitable adults who need correction for distance and near vision.
Rigid gas-permeable and scleral lenses are specialised options for selected patients with irregular corneas, including keratoconus. What happens during fitting?
Your eye-care professional checks your prescription, corneal shape, tear film and eyelid health. A trial lens helps assess vision, comfort, coverage and movement.
You receive instructions on inserting and removing lenses, cleaning reusable lenses and following the recommended wearing schedule. Follow-up confirms that your eyes remain healthy and the lenses continue to fit appropriately.
Everyday care for contact-lens wearers
Wash and thoroughly dry your hands before handling lenses. Follow the prescribed wearing hours and replacement schedule. Discard daily disposable lenses after use; do not clean and reuse them. Clean and disinfect reusable lenses with the recommended solution, and never top up old solution.
Keep lenses away from water and saliva, and remove them before showering or swimming. Clean the storage case as instructed, allow it to dry and replace it regularly. Avoid sleeping or napping in lenses unless specifically prescribed for overnight wear. Keep an up-to-date pair of spectacles available.
Blur, dryness or discomfort: what should you do?
Reduced wearing time, fluctuating vision or irritation may indicate a poor fit, deposits, dryness or another eye-surface problem. Arrange a review rather than repeatedly changing brands or using unprescribed drops.
Remove your lenses and seek prompt assessment if you develop redness, pain, light sensitivity, discharge or reduced vision. Do not reinsert them until advised. Contact-lens infections can progress quickly and threaten sight.
